"If only one baby does not have to be born like me, it will be worth it.  Tell them that , Mom.  Ask them what is going to happen when I grow up?  I want to be able to take care of myself.  I know that what happened to me isn't my fault."

Take this True and False quiz to see what you know about FAS (done by U.P. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Task Force):

              1.    FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) is a birth defect that

results from a mother drinking alcohol during pregnancy.

             2.    The leading known cause of mental retardation is

mothers who drink alcohol when they are pregnant.

             3.    There is no "safe" drinking level.  Even a small

amount of alcohol can affect an unborn baby.

             4.    A can of beer, glass of wine/wine cooler and

mixed drink all have the same amount of alcohol.

             5.    The leading known cause of mental retardation

     (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) is preventable.

The answers are all true.  Therefore, you know that FAS is a preventable birth defect.  One drink for you is like TWO drinks for your unborn child.  No amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy.  Even though FAS is preventable, there are 5,000 babies in the United States that are born with FAS every year.
